Uma Thurman recently made the headlines when she was spotted on the red carpet premiere of "The Slap" in New York with some clear drastic changes to her look, which prompted everyone to speculate on whether she had gone under the knife, says Hollywood Life.
"Frankly, I'm quite surprised by the conversation," Troy Surratt, Thurman's makeup artist, told PEOPLE. "By now, I would have thought that we were all open to and acknowledgeable of the role that makeup plays in the world of fashion and, particularly, celebrity, as a medium for creative self-expression."
Her makeup artist has finally spoken up to set things straight. Doctors who have seen Thurman's new appearance said that it looked like Botox, or maybe a brow lift, according to a separate Hollywood Life report.
According to Surratt, women today should already feel free and comfortable to experiment with different styles of makeup without having to succumb to the judgment of the people. "It's only makeup," he added. "At the end of the day, it all washes off."
He also added that the look he did on Thurman was called "effortless Parisienne chic." He did not use mascara on her and only focused on her complexion and her lips.
Before Thurman got the backlash of her makeup artist's decision to change makeup styles, Renee Zellweger was the one at the receiving end of the public's scrutiny. She sent plastic surgery rumors into overdrive when she attended the 21st Annual Women in Hollywood event of ELLE last year.
"I'm glad folks think I look different!" Zellweger told PEOPLE. "I'm living a different, happy, more fulfilling life, and I'm thrilled that perhaps it shows." She would only elaborate that she has been previously overworked and "had an insanely busy schedule and did not help the situation by making poor choices to try to conceal her exhaustion," says The Gloss.
The only thing that Thurman had contributed to her new look on the red carpet would be her age. Despite being in her mid-40s, she still managed to look young and beautiful, without having to go under the knife.
"I wanted to give Uma a statement lip balanced by a more feathered brow," Surratt revealed. "Uma and I discussed creating a look that was more editorial with soft natural lashes. As a makeup artist, I've grown a bit tired of all the lashy looks and fake eyelashes that we've been seeing on the red carpet for some time now."
