Good news for Nexus smartphone users, an LG Nexus 5 has been spotted with the Android 5.1 Lollipop Update. A new sighting of the OS update was seen on the Nexus 5 smartphone but has remained unreleased.
According to PhoneArena, the site recalls an earlier announcement that the Android 5.1 update would be deployed by this month. While it's past the mid-point of February with no specific release date, sightings of the update have been spotted.
The most recent report is that of a Nexus 5 device seen on benchmark website GeekBench with the said update. The screencap of the sighting shows a phone model -- the LG Nexus 5 -- with an upload date of February 16. The device detailed a Qualcomm CPU and a ARM 81 processor ID.
While there 's no indication exactly when the update will be made available, per GottaBeMobile, once it's available, the Android 5.1 Lollipop for Nexus devices will "appear first in the company's Android Open Source Project (AOSP) before moving out to Nexus 5 owners and owners of other Nexus smartphones and tablets Over-the-Air."
Nexus First to Update?
Per a new report by the Latino Post, Nexus is believed to be the first device to receive the Android Lollipop 5.1 update. The site notes how the update has been rolled out Nexus 5, Nexus 6 and soon, Nexus 9 devices and will be available soon.
Many Nexus 5 device users complained of a decrease in performance following a Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade. However, per a series of tests run by GSM Arena (via Digital Trends), the phone saw a dip in battery performance. "The Nexus 5 saw its standby time dip two hours, from 40 hours on KitKat to 38 hours on Lollipop," assessed the website.
In addition, it was also found that there was a significant drop in talk time. "...the HTC One (M8) and the Nexus 5 each lost about six hours of talk time after the update to Lollipop."
In conclusion, Peter of GSM Arena reported, "The battery life after the update from 4.4 KitKat to 5.0 Lollipop is a mixed bag," according to Peter at GSMArena. "While the Samsung Galaxy S5 reaps the most benefits from Project Volta's promised improvements to battery life, the other smartphones in this series of tests are still waiting for more of the magic to kick in. Nexus 5 owners, meanwhile, are left reminiscing about the good old days of KitKat battery life for their notoriously quick-to-zero phones," continued the report.
Hopefully the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for Nexus 5 will improve the battery performance along with other features.
Stay tuned for more.
