'Game of Thrones' Monopoly Release Date & Price: 'Blood-Thirsty' Board Game To Go on Sale in December? [Rumors]

Fans of the hit TV series, "Games of Thrones," could finally bring home a piece of Westeros with them. The company behind the popular fantasy series adaptation of George R.R. Martin's novels recently announced that it would come out with the series' edition of the famous board game Monopoly.

According to The Telegraph, the popular board game would feature places found on the fantasy realm created by Martin. It would include Castle Black, where the Night's Watch is located; the home of the Starks in the North, which is Winterfell; and of course, King's Landing, where the Lannisters live.

The official "Game of Thrones" Twitter handle made the announcement on the micro-blogging site on Feb. 14. It posted a tweet, which said, "'The Iron Bank is the Iron Bank.' Coming in 2015, Monopoly #GameofThrones edition.'" A photo of the "Game of Thrones" Monopoly board accompanied the said post.

A statement released by HBO said, "Vie to hold dominion over the realms of men in the Game of Thrones Collector's Edition of Monopoly."

Players' objective is to claim the Iron Throne--much like how the series is about. Hence, players would have to buy, trade, and sell whatever property they have to achieve this.

In a report by The Independent, families and bannermen are included in the game in lieu of the train stations found in the traditional London Monopoly game.

Meanwhile, what used to be red hotels were turned into keeps and green houses became villages to keep up with the whole theme and setting of the story.

Oddly, there remains a free parking for the board game in spite of the fact that there were no cars during that era.

Instead of the top hat and dog playing pieces found in a classic Monopoly game, the "Game of Thrones" edition would make use of figures very popular in the series such as the white walker, a three-eyed raven, a direwolf, crown, and a dragon egg, noted Metro.

The board game is scheduled to come out late 2015, which would be in time for Christmas. It would sell at $60 in the United States. No announcement was made on when it would be available in the United Kingdom and how much it would cost there.

It would be made available through the HBO Shop.

While classic Monopoly games are recommended for kids aged eight years and older, the "Game of Thrones" edition of the board game would follow the R-18 rating it has for the TV series and is recommended only for adults aged 18 and above.
