'Rock Band 4' PS4, Xbox One Song List, Rumors & News: Game Sequel Release in 2015? Harmonix Talks DLC Update & Pre-Orders

The music video game series, Rock Band, is reportedly getting a new title after 3 years.

According to a report of Bloomberg Business, Harmonix Music Systems Inc., the developer behind the music jamming game where players play instruments to recorded music, will release a next-generation game for two specific consoles only.

A source has revealed that the new game will be released for the PlayStation 4 as well as Microsoft's XBox One. If the report is accurate, this will be the Rock Star series' first new release since 2012's "Rock Band Blitz."

With the new rumor gaining traction, IGN reached out to Harmonix for a comment, which seemed like a bit of a teaser. Neither denying or confirming the reports, below is their response:

"We're excited by how enthusiastic our fans have been in regards to our most recent DLC releases, and we think it's awesome that people are speculating about the future of the franchise!

While we still don't have anything to announce, hundreds of thousands of unique users are still actively playing Rock Band games each month. This passion our fans have shown for Rock Band over the years suggests that rock truly hasn't died, and we've always been clear that we'd love to return to the franchise when the time is right."

DLC Update

Following last month's surprise DLC update for "Rock Band 3," many fans, according to GameRant, are hoping that this is an indication of an upcoming series release. Aside from the update, the famed game company also a sent out two surveys to gauge what fans would be interested to see in a new iteration and whether they'd be interested to "pre-order" a new "Rock Band" game.

While the source of Bloomberg didn't indicate an estimated release date for the game, it does indicate that the wheels are turning and at the very least, Harmonix has its mind on a possible "Rock Band 4."

Two comeback-themed songs have been released as of February 17. The are available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation3 system fr $1.99 each:

  • Tenacious D - "Rize Of The Fenix"
  • Weezer - "Back To The Shack"

In related news, Harmonix is releasing "'Fantasia: Music Evolved" for Xbox 360 and Xbox One. GameSpot noted that the firm's got a lot going on that includes a release of "a new Amplitude game for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. In addition, Harmonix's free-to-play PC shooter called Chroma remains in development, and the studio recently signed a publishing deal with indie publisher Tilting Point for new, music-based mobile games. On top of that, there is Harmonix VR, a music project for Samsung Gear VR."
