‘Terminator 5: Genisys’ Release Date, Cast & Trailer: ‘Blockbuster Reset’ to Get IMAX 3D Treatment in July?

The “Terminator” franchise lost a huge part of its following as indicated by the public's response to “Terminator 4”. According to Ecumenical News, the main reason it flopped would be the replacement of Arnold Schwarzenegger with Christian Bale.

Now that Schwarzenegger is back on board, its film makers are hopeful that the franchise will get its luster back once again. They are even bringing out the big guns, as “Terminator 5” is reportedly going to get the IMAX 3D treatment when it hits the big screen on July 1, according to Variety.

Schwarzenegger will be joined by Emilia Clarke of “Game of Thrones”, Jason Clarke of “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”, and Jai Courtney of “Divergent.” The director will be Alan Taylor from “Thor: The Dark World,” while the producers will be Dana Goldberg and David Ellison of Skydance Productions.

Additionally, it looks like there will be not one but two Arnold Schwarzeneggers in the film, as shared in a separate Realty Today report. As seen in the trailer, an older version of Terminator Genisys was sent to Earth to battle a much younger version of itself.

Although it is only understandable that the production crew and the cast were instructed to keep things under wraps, Courtney just could not help but reveal a few things to Collider. “I’ve been thinking a lot about how we actually frame,” he said. “People want to know if it’s a sequel or a reboot. A word that kind of came to is that it’s more of a ‘reset.’ That’s the awesome thing about when you play with time travel.”

Courtney’s time travel hint was then confirmed by Entertainment Weekly. According to the report, time travel will actually be featured quite heavily. John Connor, played by Jason Clarke, being the leader of the Resistance, will be chased after by the Skynet in both past and present through time travel.

The Terminator Fans, an official website for “Terminator” fans, just revealed that Carolco Pictures is back. Plus, the site reported that another sequel might be in the works from the once shut-down movie studio after "Terminator 5." Mario Kassar, who founded the original Carolco Pictures, is reportedly back to lead the studio.

Design & Trend says that Jim Cameron will be re-gaining ownership of the “Terminator” franchise, and fans are very hopeful that he will immediately start to work on a “Terminator” sequel with Carolco.
