Fans of Kyrie Irving's first shoe collaboration with Nike now have another thing to be excited about. The global sports brand unveiled another design and colorway for the popular shoe that would hit stores this February 2015.
The new Kyrie 1 "Flytrap" takes inspiration from the Venus flytrap and its "quickness and precision" when it comes to its prey, said Nike's official website. The shoe designer, Leo Chang, took inspiration from this carnivorous plant's speed and paired it with Irving's needs inside the court.
The Cleveland Cavaliers player is known for his swiftness and sharp moves inside the hard court and the Kyrie 1 promised to deliver features that would help the NBA player enhance this while adding extra zest to his moves with its new color.
The sneaker brings with it the technology of the Nike Zoom Air cushioning that softens the blow on every step, while the Hyperfuse construction gives maximum support to the feet.
It is also outfitted with a "360-degree dynamic traction pattern" that grips the floor hard to avoid slipping every time Irving drives his way into the hoop.
One look at the "Flytrap" colorway would already bring to mind its inspiration.
According to Sneaker News, the new design features a "bold green base" with mango color accents. The Hyperfuse construction base is in emerald green.
Meanwhile, the outsole is in poison green and mango orange color that add extra character to the shoe. The heel part of the sneaker has bright green speckles.
A silver Swoosh logo is found on both sides of the sneaker.
The point guard's jersey number adds a personalized touch to the sneaker as the symbols "#2" is found at the cushioned heel part of the shoe.
A signature of the 22-year-old NBA player is found at the inner lining of the shoe's tongue.
The said colorway first caught the public's eye in Jan. 2015. It was initially dubbed as the "Australia" edition as it was compared to the Kyrie PE Hyperrev "Australia" that came out in 2014, said the Nike blog. The Hyperrev shoe was a tribute to the Cleveland Cavaliers' birthplace.
It was later clarified that the predatory plant served as the inspiration for the new design, which was later described as similar to Irving's killer instincts inside the court.
The new Kyrie 1 "Flytrap" would hit select Nike stores and Nike.com on Feb. 26.
The shoe would sell at $110 a pair, making it one of the cheapest shoes available in the signature shoe collection of the sports brand.
