Android L 5.1 Release Date & Download: Update Out in March?

The new Android 5.1 Lollipop update has officially replaced the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update as Google’s most up-to-date Lollipop operating system. However, no official release date for the new OS has been announced.

Mo Versi, the HTC vice president of product management who is famous in the tech world for his candidness in giving away Android software, releases important information on his official Twitter page. He stated last week, as per Gotta Be Mobile, that Google’s next MR, or Maintenance Release will be on March.

For now, those looking forward to taking their Android unit to the next level will have to wait further for the official announcements. Versi may not be Google but he is plugged into significant software releases, which somehow makes his information credible, according to a separate Gotta Be Mobile report.

The Fuse Joplin says that the new Android 5.1 Lollipop update will change how WiFi and Bluetooth work. Once successfully installed, users can now view the list of networks on the WiFi and Bluetooth toggle right from the notifications tab, and will no longer have to be forwarded to a new window.

It will also bring back the feature Android users rallied for – the silent mode. Users can now put their devices on silent mode by simply pressing the volume rocker’s down button. With the Android 5.0 Lollipop, using the volume rocker could only bring the unit to a “vibrations only” mode.

Although the OK Google feature was already available with the Android 5.0 Lollipop, Google promised that this new update will get rid of the bugs and make the unique feature respectable. It allows users to use a voice-activated search to command Google to perform certain tasks.

The International Business Times points out some rumors that claim that the Android 5.1 Lollipop update will only be focusing on fixing bugs, while others say that it will also come with certain improvements. It would appear that everyone would have to wait until Google makes the official announcement regarding the update’s actual features.

The update already reached certain Android One units in several nations in Asia, such as Nepal, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines, says Tech Times. NDTV Gadgets even has screen shots of the update live in action.
