HBO's hit TV series, "Game of Thrones" has just gotten more exciting. Reports are circulating that the fifth season of the TV adaptation of George R.R. Martin's seven-book fantasy series is finally departing from the book to go on its own direction with the story and characters.
According to Air Herald, HBO producers of "Game of Thrones" is now given the opportunity to put their own spin to the story. The reason behind this sudden change is the fact that Martin's sixth book for the series, "Winds of Winter," is not yet complete.
HBO took the content of the fifth book to make its Season 4. Most of the characters story in the last season are developed in the upcoming novel. Without this, it would mean that either HBO creates their own stories for the characters or they would have to spoil the book to the fans.
In Feb. 2015, the book's publisher, HarperCollins, announced that the "Winds of Winter" is not in their launch pipeline for 2015, said Christian Post.
Jane Johnson said that since the book is "increasingly complex" to write, which makes it natural for the author to take time finishing it.
While fans of the books are very disappointed, some members of the cast are eager to see how HBO would take this opportunity to continue creating an amazing season.
Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark in the series, said the turn of events would prove to be "really exciting" for everyone.
"Fans don't know what's going to be in the next book for Sansa, but this season is going to happen before the book, so nobody has any idea," she shared.
Even Carice Van Houten, who portrays Melisandre, is delighted with the idea that everyone now is in equal footing when it comes to what would happen next in the series.
Meanwhile, Martin has spoken to the series creators to let them know his direction for the book, revealed Liam Cunningham, who plays Davos Seaworth.
While it is unclear how the new season would now pan out, Martin warned his fans to not get too attached as he noted that there would be unexpected deaths in the fifth season, said Geek.com.
In an interview with the author on Feb. 4, he revealed to Showbiz 411 that, "People are going to die who don't die in the books, so even the book readers will be unhappy. So everybody better be on their toes. David Benioff and D.B Weiss are even bloodier than I am."
"Game of Thrones" season 5 returns to HBO on April 12.
