Elegant and sleek Lake Tahoe homes in luxury ski community could be the new trend in Lake Tahoe, California. Starting last month, such modern ski chalet homes will be on sale by Mountainside Northstar developers at a price ranging from $2 to $3.5 million, as announced in Realtor.
These homes, averaging from 2000 to 3500 sq. ft., will be soon be contemporary-transformed as envisioned by no other than the architecture firm that brought us Apple, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson (BJC).
Modern Look
The developers requested for BJC to bring back to life the once grand ski chalets in Lake Tahoe. There is another strict goal that comes with it -- it must look different.
With these in mind, BJC's project principal, Greg Mottola, wasted no time in looking for inspiration. According to Mottola, as reported by Realtor, they derived the theme from the Alpine buildings in Europe, which were built from natural yet warm materials, and are expected to complement the climate in Lake Tahoe. It was an imaginative and interesting approach bringing the urban look of European infrastructures to the mountainous regions of California.
Simple yet Sleek
Along with a fresh look and great inspiration, one is expected to see sleek details from the transformed homes in Lake Tahoe.
Mottola informed that the project will deviate from older architecture's use of exposed logs and big stones. BJC aims to forego the use of several decorations and just create a clean and honest look. As told by Mottola, "simplicity and clarity" would be the focus in transforming these luxury properties in Lake Tahoe.
Not much dark wood and timber will be used. Instead, they will use stones for the floors and cedar for the walls.
The most captivating feature would be the view of the snow-capped mountains themselves during winter or the vivid forests during the other seasons by having wide and tall windows for such magnificent views.
Functional All-Year
Since the project is in a skiing community, there will be ski rooms, to be used as ready store rooms for skiing apparel and equipment. Mottola plans for the rooms to be fully-functional all throughout the year, attracting the market even during non-winter seasons. There will be lots of sliding doors for communities and friends to allow easy hang-outs when weather permits.
The Developers and BJC are anticipating that this will be a start of a trend in this area -- smart, crisp and fresh.
