'The LEGO Movie 2' Plot & Release Date: Comedy Director Named! Is Rob Schrab a Perfect Fit?

Despite a controversial Oscars snub for the computer animated film, "The Lego Movie," the people behind the projects remains determined to repeat the success of the first film. Word is out that a new director was chosen to create another fantastic sequel on the adventures of everyone's favorite toy block characters.

According to Time, acclaimed director Rob Schrab would helm the highly anticipated sequel. The movie will be Schrab's first full feature film, which would mark his jump from TV to movies. He is known for his works in "Community," "The Sarah Silverman Program," "Parks and Recreation," and "The Mindy Project."

It seems that Schrab is the perfect choice to direct the upcoming sequel as Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who both produced and directed the first LEGO film, handpicked the upcoming director for his talent.

The Variety noted that the two were all praises for Schrab. A statement released by both Lord and Miller said, "We are so excited to collaborate with Rob. He is a comedy genius, a visual savant and we have been stalking him for years."

The two added that, "No one works harder than Rob, and his aesthetic, combined with his sense of humor, bring a strong, unique, thoughtful, and passionately nerdy voice to this project."

Lord and Miller further went on to say that there is no doubt Schrab could deliver.

"People who know him are slapping their foreheads today and saying, 'Of course,'" stated the two.

Master Herald remarked that Schrab earned numerous recognitions for his works. He won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics.

The director was also nominated for a Writers' Guild Awards for writing, directing, and serving as the executive producer of "The Sarah Silverman Program." His work in the comedy, "Monster House," was noticed as well. Meanwhile, he was nominated for an Annie Award for Best Writing in an Animated Feature Production for the said movie in 2007.

Schrab was nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Music or Comedy Special in the 2009 Oscar Awards. He wrote the opening act in the 81st Academy Awards with Ben Schwartz and Dan Harmon. The act featured Hugh Jackman singing songs written by the three writers.

Lord and Miller would return for the movie as producers as well as write the script for the film along with Michelle Morgan and Jared Stern.

No announcement was made with regard who would voice the characters although Chris Pratt, who was behind Emmet in the first film, expressed his desire to return, said Stack.

The movie is rumored to hit theaters in 2018 and would be the fourth LEGO movie to come out. Other off shoot films of the toy blocks include "Ninjago" and "Lego Batman."
