The Nexus smartphone line has consistently been one of the first to receive new Android OS rollouts. Now that there's buzz around the upcoming Android 5.1 Lollipop update, many are keeping an eye out for Nexus devices loaded with the new OS.
It was reported last month by Realty Today that Nexus devices were spotted with the 5.1 Lollipop update. The OS testing was seen in Asian countries like Indonesia and the Philippines.
Now, according to a new leak (via Christian Times), two programs have been seen running on LG Nexus 5s. They're believed to be the new updates Android 5.1 and the Android 5.2. The new information strengthens the rumors that the highly-anticipated update will be ready for release quite soon. If Google is already testing the next program (Android 5.2 Lollipop), it most likely means a platform for the 5.1 is practically finalized.
Relatedly, in addition to the Nexus 5, Myce also published a new article indicating that a Nexus 4 and a Nexus 6 have been seen running on the Android 5.1 OS.
However, while the update sightings and insider leaks are increasing, there is still no confirmation when exactly the update will be made available to users.
What to Expect
Android Geeks reminds the public that the update won't be full of new features given that it's merely a maintenance update. "The update will be mostly about fixing bugs and bringing a some interface tweaks here and there. Without a doubt, all the Nexus terminals that got updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop will also get Android 5.1 support: Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2012 and 2013), Nexus 9, and Nexus 10."
"The new software update should also hit the Google Play Edition devices shortly after it's released for the Nexus family," added the online publication.
Fueling anticipation for the Android 5.1 Lollipop to be released this month, HTC's Mo Versi did confirm a maintenance release in March through his Twitter account. Responding to a query by an HTC user regarding bug fixes, Versi tweeted: @JensEsbjerg It'll be tied to Google's next MR, which is in March. Thanks."
Some expected bug fixes to come with the update include return of the silent mode, RAM management, battery performance, along with better internet connectivity and consumption, to name a few.
Stay tuned for more regarding the highly-anticipated Android 5.1 Lollipop update release. We'll report as soon as news hits!
