How do you choose the right mattress?

Mattresses come in various types, including innerspring, memory foam, hybrid, encased coil, gel memory foam, and pillow top.

  • An Innerspring mattress feels firmer and is made of interlocked spring coils.
  • Hybrid mattresses offer a mix of comfort and softness. They are generally constructed using a blend of two or more support such as latex, polyurethane foams, memory, and coils.
  • Pillow-top mattresses add a layer of comfort with a soft material sewn into the cover or on top of the innerspring.
  • A memory foam mattress provides pressure relief and body support. They are made from treated polyurethane foam, so they conform to your body contour.
  • Encased coil mattresses are made from coils that are individually wrapped in mattress fabric so it can provide better response and support.
  • Gel-infused mattresses or what is called "third-generation" foam, are known for their breathability and comfort. While they have a similar feel with that of traditional memory foam, they a different in that they are made by adding gel beads.

When should you replace your mattress?

Aside from wear and tear, it may be time to buy a new mattress if you hear noisy springs, or it no longer supports your body like it used to. Also, if your mattress is causing your asthma or allergies to worsen, then it is time to shop for a new one.
