People hate relocation even if they are finally moving into their dream house, and rightly so. The entire moving process drains your energy and exhausts you financially. This can be even more taxing during current times. Remember the following tips if you are planning to relocate sometime this year.
Do Not Procrastinate
The year has already been quite unpredictable, and you will only end up in chaos by delaying your preparations in such testing times. Start planning your relocation as early as possible and avoid delaying. Even if you are not due to leave your current location until the next few weeks, do not wait and start preparing and planning. Start hunting and getting in touch with relevant service providers and make a list of all the essentials that you need to buy and all that needs to be done.
Research Your Service Providers
As you will move forward with your winding-up process, you will realize you need to hire some services to facilitate your entire relocation process. Some people prefer using freelance van services, storage providers, and loaders to assist them while another alternative is to hire professional movers. A lot of people are reluctant to hire professional moving services due to a perception that they cost more. Professional services offer greater security as there have been several cases of damaged or missing goods during transit when using freelance services. When researching your options do a cost and benefit analysis and always hire someone with a strong reference and proven track record. Some professional movers will also give you coverage which is a plus.
Organize Yourself
The most difficult part of winding up your existing space is to figure out where to start. Many people end up packing their stuff randomly and as a result, the unpacking phase becomes a nightmare because you do not remember what item was packed in which box. Make notes and lists for everything. Classify everything that needs to be packed into categories and handling protocols. Pack fragile and hazardous supplies separately. Mark and label each box with its contents. Ideally, declutter and get rid of everything that you do not need so that you have fewer items to pack.
Do Not Take Along with Everything
You might be tempted to pack and tackle everything along with you. However, often the cost of buying a new item is much less than relocating an old one. This is usually true for larger packages. For example, the cost of buying a new couch might be much less than moving an old one. Take advantage of flea markets and garage sales to sell off your old pieces and use the cash to buy off a new one. This will also help to optimize your moving costs and can even make your relocation much more efficient.
Prepare a Survival Bag pack
Most people end up ignoring the need for a survival bag. Once you reach your new location, your belongings will still be packaged and it will still take you some time, even days to unpack. In such a situation, you should make a separate survival backpack with essentials such as a few clothes, toiletries, etc. so that you do not need to unpack right away.
