“Insurgent,” the third installment to the “Divergent” franchise, will be out later this month, and its marketing team seems to be working overtime to further add to the hype that surrounds the film.
The “Insurgent: Shatter Reality” is a virtual reality experience that was rumored to have leaked the ending of the film.
Apart from this technology, the first song off of the movie’s official sound track is now out, weeks ahead of the film’s debut schedule. “Holes in the Sky,” performed by HAIM and M83, boasts of a “gorgeous orchestral slow burn” that features the vocal talents of the famous HAIM sisters and the unique sound created by the M83, as described by MTV News.
HAIM and M83 are joined by Woodkid, Anna Calvi, Lykke Li, and Imagine Dragons. The full list of the songs that are included in the soundtrack for “Insurgent” is posted on Digital Spy.
HAIM was reportedly very much excited when M83 and Anthony Gonzales approached them for a unique collaboration for the young adult movie. “We had the best time in the studio with him,” they said, according to Design & Trend. “It all happened so fast and was so easy and natural. We are so excited to be a part of this movie.”
Although effective marketing through virtual reality is an impressive feat, this is actually not the first time that virtual reality was used as a marketing tool for a well-known entertainment property, according to The Guardian. The same strategy was previously done by “Game of Thrones” with a one-minute experience about what it is like “atop the wall.”
With “Insurgent,” however, the virtual reality experience takes place for four minutes. The protagonist starts off in New York City, near the Flatiron building, moves on to the Navy Pier in Chicago, the Grove in Los Angeles, to San Francisco’s Pier 39, then South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, The Guardian notes.
According to the rumor mill, “Insurgent: Shatter Reality” gave a few hints about how the upcoming movie might end – whether or not it followed through with what was stated in the novels. Sadly, reports of those who have tried the VR have been pretty vague, at best.
The “Divergent” franchise is based on the trilogy of bestselling books that were written by Veronica Roth. “Insurgent” was directed by notable director Robert Schwentke, and features the acting prowess of the film’s lead characters, namely, Shailene Woodley as Tris or Beatris Prior and Theo James as Four or Tobias Eaton.
Together, and along with other allies they met on the way, they will be battling Jeanine Matthews, played by Kate Winslet in order to save their factions.
Pitchfork says that the official soundtrack will be released on March 17, only a couple of days before the movie finally hits theaters on March 20.
