When the coronavirus pandemic hit the world, many establishments, including Disneyland theme parks worldwide, temporarily shut down their operations. While some Disneyland parks are already accepting guests, the COVID-19 threat is still around the corner.
But fans need not worry because Disneyland is not the only place to make your Disney princess dreams come true. Instead of spending a whole day at the famous theme park, why not live in your own castle?
It is possible through this fairytale-inspired home designed by the same architect who created Sleeping Beauty's castle, which is now up in the market for $2.5 million.
According to the realtor.com listing, the real-life castle located at Bennett Drive in Los Angeles is designed and built by Roland E. Hill in 1926. Hill is the same architect who designed the famous Sleeping Beauty castle at California Disneyland.
Castle for Sale Property Details
The 2,626 square-foot property has four bedrooms and three bathrooms. It features a castle-like turret, stained glass mirrors similar to the classic 1959 Disney animated film.
According to the New York Post, the property is a registered historic home, which comes with its original 1926 blueprints. It was last sold in the market in 2006 for $1.57 million.
The house boasts fairytale-inspired details, including the 26-foot exposed wooden beams, which look like a storybook peak, red-and-yellow stained-glass windows, a wrought-iron chandelier, and lantern lighting, which gives a mystical ambiance.
While the house underwent several renovations in the past, it still carried the original hardwood floors, oversized fireplace, and the arched glass doors that lead to the balcony with an overlooking deck of the pool.
A pair of medieval-style peaked doorways will lead you to the dining room, which features another stained-glass window and exposed ceiling beams. The winding staircase will get you through the master bedroom with exposed brick walls and three closets.
Some parts of the house, like the kitchen, have been updated with modern appliances, including a six-burner stove, a grill, two ovens, and heat lamps.
Aside from the main house, the enchanting home also comes with a separate guest house, a studio, a two-car garage, a slate patio, a fire pit, and citrus trees.
Joshua and Matt Altman of Douglas Elliman, famous for being realtors-to-the-stars, hold the fairytale-inspired house's listing.
Fairytale Castle Inspiration
Architect Roland E. Hill drew his castle inspiration during his stint as a pilot during the First World War. After getting injured in a crash, he drew the castles he saw along the way while accompanying officers around France and Germany.
While in the Army, Hill met Walt Disney, who was then serving as a driver for the American Red Cross in France. They two became friends because of their love for drawing.
After graduating from art school in 1924, Hill guided the design for some Disney castle and medieval architecture attractions, including "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," "Fantasia," and "Sleeping Beauty."
