Pet lovers are everywhere across the world. Each family treat their pets like their own family member. That is why they also consider their welfare whenever they are looking for a new place to live in.
In the middle of the coronavirus global pandemic, the demand for pet-friendly properties increased as more people are staying longer at home doing remote work and homeschooling.
A recent Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) report shows an increased pet adaption rates during the pandemic. In New South Wales alone, a 30 percent increase in adaption was recorded during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic last year.
Pets in Apartment Trend
With the growing number of pet adaption, a property manager anticipated a huge trend in having pets in apartments and use the demand to their advantage.
According to Crown Group director of property management Anthony Caudullo, making their properties appealing to pet owners set their developments apart, especially when rents and vacancy rates in the city have dropped.
"We saw a future trend emerging and became one of the first Sydney developers to accommodate pets and cater to that demand with our building design (and) our retail mix," Caudullo said, as reported by news.com.au.
To address the demand for pet-friendly properties, Crown Group's latest development in Waterloo allotted over 2,600 square-meter of internal gardens with grassed areas for pets.
Caudullo confirmed that about ten percent of the new project's residential application came from potential tenants with pets.
"As a result, our retail leasing team has designed the retail mix to incorporate pet-friendly outlets and our development teams have modified the design of all our future developments - common area and lift lobby floor finishes all have hard wearing surfaces that are resilient to little paws and occasional accidents," he explained.
Pet-Friendly Commercial Spaces
Waterloo's new residential property will be surrounded by 3,600 square-meeter dog-friendly parks, a dog grooming parlor, and a cat cafe.
YuMiao co-founder Maggie Jin said that their cat cafe would have up to ten rescue cats to interacts with guests.
"A lot of people have been very stressed because of COVID. I think for most cat lovers, being able to come home to your cat makes you forget about everything," Ms. Jin said.
"So I want to provide people with an opportunity and a place for them to relax with cats, take photos and just watch them having fun in our space. I'm sure it's also great for your mental health," she added.
How to find a perfect pet-friendly home?

Pet tour - bring your fur baby for a quick tour at the property and observe how they react to the surrounding.
Assure the landlord - provide your pet's documents like medical details or vaccination records to assure the landlord that you are bringing in a healthy pet.
