With all the Earth's problems, such as climate change, pollution, deforestation, world wars, and more, do you sometimes thought about escaping and living on the moon by yourself? Did you ever wonder how it feels like living with stars as your neighbors and live a lunar lifestyle?

Well, that wild imagination may come true. But it comes with a massive price tag as a new study confirms that setting up a first house on the moon would cost an out-of-this-world price tag of $60 million.

Based on the study conducted by the UK finance site Money.co.uk, securing a mortgage to the moon would require an estimated $320,000 monthly payment for every 1,356 square feet of space real estate.

Money used SpaceX's blastoff wight pricing to gauge how much it would cost to bring construction materials, tools, and laborers to the moon and make you the first "moon resident."

The study also included the cost of new technology required for life support in living on the moon.

Property Requirements

Before we break down the pricing of extraterrestrial living, you should first know how to land yourself a property to the moon.

The study suggests that you would need to secure a land license, which cost varies from location, depending on the area's desirability.

To build an average of 76m2 house, you will be required to fly at least 26 workers together with their tools, equipment, and construction materials. And since they will be working in a remote location, the "travel cost" will also be a different story. Transporting these essential items may already cost $8 million.

Pricing Breakdown

Let us start with the location cost; it could range from less than $20 to $120 per acre. Setting up 34-panel solar energy would cost around $23,000, which is on top of a luxurious nuclear reactor with a more than a $1 billion price tag.

The study also suggests that each home on the moon will be equipped with technologies to grow food and recycle water to save transportation costs of going back and forth to Earth to import these essential items.

"With the markup price for a property being on average 27.61%, you could expect to buy the first house on the Moon for £44,525,536.42. The price of the houses thereafter will be valued at a slightly lower price of £37,365,824.98, as the transportation cost for the tools and equipment would have been accounted for in the initial build," the report reads.

Space Hotel By 2027?

While having the first residential property on the moon is far from reality, for now, another company is already working on launching a luxury space hotel by 2027.

According to Fox Business, The Orbital Assembly Corp. is looking to open the "Voyager Station," which can hold 400 guests at a time.

Recreational space travelers will need an estimated net worth of roughly $50 million to enjoy this luxurious stay in space.
