Renovating the kitchen can be a costly endeavor. Adding new custom cabinets, granite countertops, and stainless steel burners can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars. While those are the ideal upgrades, renovation does not always have to break the bank.

If you're planning on transforming your kitchen and giving it a fresh new look, here are some budget-friendly ideas to help you create the space of your dreams.

1. Adding an accent wall

If you're tired of looking at the same old white walls in your kitchen, consider adding an accent wall. This will create a focal point in your space and freshen up the space without hurting the budget.

Accent walls don't have to include geometric patterns and textures. A splash of navy blue on one wall can add the perfect pop of color to contrast your kitchen cabinets. For an extra oomph, you can also hang unique art pieces to give the kitchen a bit more character.

Tip: If you have white cabinets, consider using paint with a darker tone. If you're going for a more rustic, farmhouse look, consider using neutral paint colors or elements like distressed reclaimed wood.

2. Add open shelving

Open shelves are a great addition to any kitchen. Not only does it make your kitchen feel larger, but it also takes up a lot of physical space. In addition, it gives you full access to any items you might need without worrying about reaching into difficult corners.

That being said, open shelving means putting in some effort to make sure everything looks neat and the messy clutter is out of sight. Placing your open shelving near an extractor fan and a hob could also lead to it becoming too greasy and notoriously difficult to clean.

3. Change up your kitchen decorations

If you're looking at smaller-scale remodeling, changing your decor and accent pieces can be great options. Think about adding some terrazzo candles and coasters on the counter for that splash of color. If you're into farmhouse core, use wicker baskets as storage.

4. Replace old hardware

If your cabinets are still in good, working condition, consider updating the hardware for a fresh new look. Hardware such as cabinet knobs and pulls are inexpensive and easy to replace. Black cabinet pulls, for example, can elevate a cabinet and give it a retro vibe.

5. Organize

Sometimes, all the kitchen needs is a little decluttering. Organizing your space and throwing away anything that is broken or expired can give your space a fresh and new feel. It will also give you more space for your spice organizers and small appliances.
