"Toy Story" will be back for a fourth movie but it seems that fans of the toys-come-to-life Woody and Buzz won't get to see the dynamic duo on the big screen again as reports are circulating that Disney, in collaboration with Pixar, is coming out with a fourth installment of the franchise that will feature an entirely different story.
When the announcement was made confirming the arrival of the fourth movie, not everyone was glad of the news. Some fans felt that the ending of "Toy Story 3" was the perfect way to cap the story of Andy and his toys.
It seems that the fans' comments reached Disney executives and reports have come out that the company behind "Toy Story 4" would come up with a different plot than its first three films, said Comic Book.
According to Slash Film, Pixar Studio President, Jim Morris revealed to Disney Latino that the producers are looking at a new angle for the upcoming fourth movie.
"The third movie ended in a beautiful way and completed a trilogy. I think this movie is not part of this trilogy. It is a separate story, which in turn I do not know if will be continued. Never begin a project with that in mind," said Morris.
The studio is intent on coming up with a new story that they have considered coming up with a romantic angle for "Toy Story 4."
"It is not a continuation of the end of the Toy tory 3. Temporarily, it is, but it will be a love story. It will be a romantic comedy. It will not put much focus on the interaction between the characters and children. I think it will be a very good movie," Morris continued.
With this in mind, speculations have begun on who would be featured in this love story angle. It would be great to see a story develop between Buzz or Woody with another lady doll. Perhaps, Disney and Pixar could cross over to Mattel and have Barbie join the cast for the fourth film.
Everything is still in the preliminary stages according to Morris and a lot of changes might still happen in terms of the film's direction.
The studio head also opened up the idea that the fourth movie might evolve into its own trilogy of sorts but it would all depend "on how passionate the director of the project is."
Rashida Jones and Will McCormack are working on the script and both have experience in writing love stories. The two previously worked together for the script of "Celeste and Jesse Forever."
E! News said "Toy Story 4" would hit theaters on June 16, 2017.
