Disney May Soon Add Another Avatar-Themed Land to Disneyland Resort: CEO

Disney could soon add another Avatar-themed land to the Disneyland Resort, Bob Iger, CEO of Walt Disney Co., shared Tuesday.

Disneyland has one Avatar-themed land, "Pandora - The World of Avatar," at Disney's Animal Kingdom in Florida. However, the company may build another Avatar-based land in other Disneyland locations, including Asia and Europe.

"We have one Avatar-based land, Pandora, in Florida; we're going to put a second one in California. That doesn't mean we can't put one somewhere in Asia or somewhere in Europe, for instance." Iger said during the event, according to Scott Gustin, a digital team member at Nexstar Media Group Inc.

Iger first announced plans to add an Avatar-based experience to the Disneyland Resort in February 2023, but specific details on the plan were not publicly disclosed.

More details came out in May of the same year when it was announced that Walt Disney was working with James Cameron, director of the Avatar movies, on the new "experience" project.

"Our Imagineers are working with Jim Cameron and his team," Disneyland Resort president Ken Potrock said during the OC Forum event on May 18, as quoted by the Orange County Register. "We're going to share lots more details as they become available. By the way, as I become aware of what the heck we're going to do. But stay tuned; it's going to be really exciting. We're thinking bold."

Disney's Other Plans

Apart from Avatar, Disney could add more major experiences and lands in the next 10 years, Iger said during the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference.

"We have thousands of acres of lands to develop, we could actually build seven new full lands if we wanted to around the world," he said.

In September, at the D23 Expo, Walt Disney announced it was transforming Animal Kingdom's Dinoland USA into an oasis inspired by the "tropical Americas." This may make way for experiences based on recent hit films, including Coco, Encanto, and Zootopia. Also announced was another Moana area at Animal Kingdom, per Gizmodo.

That being said, all the concepts are still in the development stage and are not yet final.
