The median home sale price in the US has steadily increased but properties in some metro areas continue to sell out fast.
As of July, US homes sold at a median price of $439,455, according to data from Redfin. In California, for instance, property values have risen so much that the median price of a single-family home exceeded $2 million in the San Jose metro area.
However, homes in some zip codes continue to sell fast, spending between 32 and 45 fewer days on the market than the typical US home in the first half of 2024. This was especially true in six metros where prices remain below average, according to a recent analysis from Realtor.com.
Where Are the Hottest Zip Codes in the US?
Seven of the ten hottest zip codes on Realtor's 2024 list are in the Northeast, with metro areas near economic hubs. This year's hottest zip code is Gahanna, OH, (ZIP 43230), where homes stayed for an average of 11 days on the market. This is the second year Gahanna has topped the list.
"Gahanna is so appealing because of its strong home values," real estate agent Lory Kim, with Re/Max Connection, said in a statement.
"The market here has remained robust over the years, which is a testament to the area's enduring appeal. And compared to some other nearby areas, Gahanna is still quite affordable, making it a smart choice for families and anyone looking to invest in a community with so much to offer."
