Derek Jeter, the highly-esteemed retired New York Yankees shortstop, has decided to vacate his Townhouse at 56 Bank St. in the West Village.
The three-storey New York property was up for grabs in the market after "The Captain" moved out. But, its market stint was only short-lived as a wealthy sport aficionado has reportedly grabbed a hold of the property before anyone else could, reports the New York Post.
The 20-foot wide brick rental townhouse is now being leased out to the lucky "mystery tenant" at a price of $22,995 a month.
StreetEasy.com reports that Bank street, where the townhouse was built, offers a quintessential appeal resembling the West Village living. The street is lined with colourful homes and trees, and just a stone's throw away from boutiques, coffee shops, and restaurants. Bank Street is an eponym of the Bank of New York founded in 1798.
The townhouse was constructed for the Reverend Joseph Carter in 1833. Since then, the rental has gone through a lot of refurbishments. The facade, which is mostly made up of brick materials, was built in Flemish bond. It has a huge area for dining where a fireplace and a big kitchen is located. The spacious master's bedroom is situated on the third floor. The townhouse also has a classy English basement, a garden, and patio.
In an interview with ESPN New York, Brian Cashman, General Manager of the New York Yankees, has honoured Derek Jeter by exclaiming that if he could have it his way, he wouldn't let anybody take the title of team captaincy once again. Not to take anything away from other players with leadership potential, he believes that Derek did his captainship role as well as anyone can.
"He wore it well, and I'm not a big advocate of giving out the captaincy anyway. I'm not going to recommend anyone being named captain of the New York Yankees right away", Cashman said.
New York Yankees list of captains include some of the greatest players the sports have ever seen like Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Thurman Munson, and Don Mattingly. Derek Jeter was named the 16th captain in team history.
Derek Jeter retires at the age of 40, holding New York Yankees' team record on the most number of hits. He capped off his illustrious career with a win in his last game at the Yankees Stadium on the 25th of September of the previous year.
He has an estimated net worth of $185 million dollars as per Forbes.com.
