Adrien Broner will look to move one step closer to becoming a world champion again when he collides with John Molina Jr. in the Premier Boxing Champions series debut on Saturday night at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Broner, who holds an impressive 29-1 record with 22 knockouts, scored unanimous decision victories against Emmanuel Taylor and Carlos Molina last year, which came after he took a lopsided decision loss to Marcos Maidana in September 2013 - his first and only defeat to date.
Broner, the former World Boxing Association welterweight champion, is confident that he will score a convincing win against Molina. The 25-year-old said he does not think Molina will last 12 rounds, but he also added that he is ready to go the distance on Saturday night.
"I'm not expecting the fight to go 12 rounds but if it does I will be prepared for it," Broner said via RingTV. "But hopefully I get this fight over with fast because in this game you don't get paid for overtime."
The former world champion knows that all eyes will be on him once again as boxing fans have been raving about the PBC series, a brainchild of influential boxing adviser Al Haymon, who inked a deal with NBC network to carry the fights, including 20 cards this year.
Knowing that there will be a lot of attention for the Saturday night fight card, the always-flamboyant Broner said that he is planning to put on a show for boxing fans.
"It means a lot to fight on NBC," Broner said of the inaugural Premier Boxing Champions fight card. "I can get some new fans and hopefully I can get more people to like me than dislike me."
On the other hand, Molina, who has racked up 27 wins with 22 knockouts against five defeats in his career, is determined to steal the spotlight from his more-celebrated opponent.
Molina said that he has studied Broner's fighting style and weaknesses, which were exposed during the Ohio native's lost to Maidana. The California native expressed confidence about scoring an upset on Saturday night.
"There's definitely a strategic game plan that we have worked on," Molina said via ESPN. "We feel like we are going to be able to capitalize. But Broner is a talent, nonetheless. He has accomplished things that people can only dream of in this sport at such an early age, and it's my job to go in there and disrupt it to give him another loss."
The Broner vs Molina non-title fight will be the main event of the first PBC fight card that is scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m. EST on NBC. Fans can also catch the action through online live stream via NBC Sports Live Extra.
