Android Lollipop 5.0 Update for HTC One M7, Sony Xperia Z Series Available for Download Soon?

Android users who own HTC and Sony smartphones would finally be treated to some good news. Google's newest update to its operating system is reportedly coming soon to HTC and Sony devices.

The Android 5.0 Lollipop update was released in 2014. However, it took a long time for many users to gain access to the update due to some technical fixes and compatibility concerns.

Months after it was launched, the said update would finally reach HTC and Sony users, according to The Latin Post.

HTC users who have the One M8 unit were treated to the OS update a month earlier in February. However, these were only limited to those who bought their gadgets under contract with certain network carriers and unlocked versions.

Those who bought their HTC One M8 units under Verizon were able to update their units in early March.

On March 8, HTC Vice President of Product Management Mo Versi announced on Twitter that HTC One M7 users under T-Mobile is finally getting the update soon.

Versi tweeted, "HTC One (M7) T-Mobile Owners! We've received technical approval on the L OS and OTA will start on Tuesday. #htcadvantage"

In a report by GSM Arena, One M7 devices under T-Mobile would be able to download the new update beginning March 10.

Meanwhile, those with Sony devices couldsoon get their first feel of the system update as the company finally announced that Android 5.0 Lollipop is coming to their Xperia Z devices.

While this seems to be great news to those using Sony Xperia Z units, other unit owners in the Xperia line would be disappointed to learn that their phones would not be getting the Android system upgrade.

According to GSM Arena, Sony revealed via Twitter that only select Xperia Z units would enjoy the Android 5.0 Lollipop.

In a response to a user's question, Sony tweeted, "Hi. We can advise that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update is going to be released for the entire Xperia Z series only, we do apologise."

That said, Xperia E1, E2, C3, M2, M2 Aqua, T3, and T2 Ultra units would not be able to access the update.

Fans expressed their disappointment over the news but some already expected it as Sony has been transparent since 2014 that the company's focus would shift to their Xperia Z units, said Tech Times.

No exact date was revealed by Sony when Xperia Z users could download the Android update.
