Fans of LeBron James' basketball shoe collaboration with global sports brand Nike would soon be treated to a new colorway for the 12th signature shoe of the athlete. Word is out that the blue and silver combination for the LeBron 12 called, "What If," is coming out in March.
The shoe gets its design title inspiration from one of the defining moments in the NBA star's high school athletics career.
According to Sneaker News, basketball was not the sole sport that inspired passion in the 30-year-old small forward. A young James played football before he was introduced to basketball by a local youth football coach he met in Ohio.
He fell in love with the sport growing up and was even part of the first team in the private high school of St. Vincent-St. Mary's as a wide receiver.
James' stint with football ended when he injured his wrist while playing in an AAU-sanctioned basketball game. This incident brought the NBA player a step closer to becoming the basketball star he is now as he began to concentrate on the hoops game after that.
This led Nike to throw in the question, "What if?" in this new colorway in an effort to imagine what could have happened if James went for football instead of basketball.
"What if LeBron pursued football or another passion," asked Nike. Though one may never know the answer to the question, it is clear that even if the Cleveland Cavaliers landed in professional basketball by accident, he was meant to excel in it.
The combination of deep royal blue base and metallic silver upper material is a homage to James' favorite football team. A look at the mix would reminde one of the helmets of the Dallas Cowboys, which happens to be the basketball player's team in the NFL.
The sneaker brings with it all the technology that comes with the LeBron 12 shoes in a simple and classic blue and metal color combination with matching translucent blue outsole.
The LeBron 12 "What If" drops to stores and Nike.com on March 14.
Each pair costs $200 and are available only in adult sizing.
Kids who want to their own LeBron 12 shoes may opt for a different colorway instead.
Hitting the shelves on March 11 is the LeBron 12 "Cereal," which took inspiration from his favorite breakfast food, the "Fruity Pebbles."
The sneaker features a black base speckled with bright green, pink, orange, and blue accents on the upper portion. An icy white outsole completes the look.
This design would only be available for kid sizing and would sell at $160 per pair, said Nike.com.
