Ever since word came out that the sixth volume of George R.R. Martin's fantasy novels "Game of Thrones" would not come out in 2015, many fans have been devastated. However, it seems that the winds have changed as an actor from the hit TV series hinted of the possibility that the upcoming season 5 might still get its story from the much-delayed book.
Martin announced in early 2015 that his "Winds of Winter" is not yet done and would not come out in the same year.
The news posed a huge problem to the production of the HBO series based from the novels. Its upcoming season's plotline relies heavily on the sixth volume as most of the content of book 5, "A Dance of Dragons," was already used in the past season.
However, a statement from one of the actors in the hit TV series has led to speculations that perhaps the sixth book is already finished and will be arriving in bookstores soon.
According to IB Times, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau was a guest for Men's Health magazine, where he talked about the upcoming season.
The actor who plays Jamie Lannister said, "The show bosses know as much as George R. R. Martin knows about the story."
While this in itself would seem that the sixth book is already finished considering that HBO producers are said to be privy to how the characters would end up in the story, Coster-Waldau's next statement further sparked rumors that the next installment is already done.
He continued, "He hasn't written the books, but he knows how he wants it to end. Well, I think he's written one of them now. I don't know when it comes out, but I'd assume soon."
Whether the book is released this year or not, it seems that producers are already about to make a major departure from the novels.
A report in Zap2it quoted Coster-Waldau saying, "All the details, the showrunners are going to have to come up with themselves. It's going to be interesting because I think the show is going to be finished before the last book comes out. There'll be quite a big difference when it does."
Even Martin himself noted, "No one is safe in the TV series," according to Master Herald. As the TV show would take a spin of its own for the story, there might be surprise deaths that would not be the same in the upcoming book.
Nevertheless, as the show is signed to do a sixth season, with Martin already in talks with producers, it remains to be seen if everything would be as different in the TV show as the author would have it in the upcoming book.
