While production of "Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tells" is on-going, actor Johnny Depp has reportedly been injured and will be requiring surgery.
According to The Wrap, the actor sustained a hand-related injury while on location in Australia but the mishap happened outside of set. Depp, husband of Amber Heard, will be returning to the United States where he will be getting the necessary medical intervention.
The publication also cited that per a Disney spokesperson, the film remains on-schedule for its July 7, 2017 release and the injury has "minimally impacted" production.
"Pirates 5" has already had its share of unexpected occurrences, notes The Sydney Morning Herald. Prior to Depp's injury, earlier this week a pirate -- dressed appropriately along with a pirate on his shoulder -- threatened security at the set and earlier weather conditions threatened production.
Last Tuesday, when the filming crew was located along Country Club Drive at Helensvale, an unidentified man and supposed pirate threatened staff with a knife before fleeing the scene. Police attempted to locate the man but failed to find him. It was believed that the individual wasn't an extra for the film.
This follows January's Cyclone Marcia (category 5 tornado) that threatened the coast and could have temporarily shut down movie production. However, since filming was done in the Gold Coast studio, the movie's activities proceeded as scheduled.
The on-going film is the fifth movie for the "Pirates" franchise, Johnny Depp returns as Captain Jack Sparrow and other stars set to appear in the flick include Javier Bardem (villain Captain Salazar), Geoffrey Rush (Captain Barbossa) and Brenton Thwaites ( young British Soldier).
With regards to the film's plot, Variety notes that "In the fifth installment of the 'Pirates' franchise, Jack Sparrow himself in the winds of ill fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil's Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea ... including him. Captain Jack's only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas."
"Pirates 5," directed by Espen Sandberg and Joachim Ronning, began filming this quarter thus no trailer has been released.
The last film, "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" took in over $1 billion globally.
