“Big Hero 6” grossed $521 million at the global box office and was also given the 2015 Best Animated Feature Oscar. With these achievements, the future seems bright for the animated franchise.
There are even rumors on Idea Wiki that the sequel will be tied up with “The Incredibles 2” and will be titled “Big Hero 6: The Incredible Battle.” According to the rumor, the tie-up sequels will be directed by Brad Bird.
Although it remains unclear whether the studio will push through with the sequel, Genesis Rodriguez, the actress who lends her voice for Honey Lemon, just implied that a sequel will be happening pretty soon and that there are “rumblings of something else happening.”
“I doubt they wouldn’t want to do another one – it was a huge success,” Rodriguez said. “It’s a Marvel franchise that Disney adapted. Just like comic books, you could make it a complete different story and the superheroes reunited to attack someone else. So, it’s a perfect little set-up they got for a sequel if they wanted to.”
Although KPopStarz is convinced that a “Big Hero 6” sequel will be in the works sooner rather than later, Screen Rant reported otherwise. In fact, directors Chris Williams and Don Hall have not even talked about the possibility of a sequel to date.
“We’ll see,” Hall told Creative Screenwriting. “We just finished this one and the truth is we’re exhausted from the ordeal of making it. It was really fun, but it was long hours. And it was pretty intense. It’s a pretty emotional time for us. We haven’t talked about or thought about any sequels or anything like that. Having said that, of course, we love these characters, and the thought of working with them again, some day, definitely has its appeal.”
Producer Roy Conli also spoke to Comic Book and insisted that conversations about a “Big Hero 6” sequel are still months away from happening. “I’m asked more questions about sequels than we ever actually talk about it,” Conli said. “We have our big Oscar celebration and, probably, sometime in June, we’ll reconvene and talk about what’s next.”
Rumor has it that Brad Bird will be taking over as director, and that all of the characters of “Big Hero 6” and “The Incredibles” will be back, including Kris Kistofferson, Max Charles, and Elton John.
