5 Secrets to a Fresh & Odor-Free Home

A clean, fresh and odor-free home is a wonderful place to stay. Aside from having a good ambiance, it also promotes good health. Having smoke, funky and foul smelling odors is just not suitable for comfortable living.

Although some of you may just spray lots of readily available air fresheners, that's just not the way to go. It does not get rid of the odor, it just masks them, says FMCA.

Here are 5 secrets to home that is fresh and odor-free.

1. Installing Wide and Tall Windows
Yes, that's one great tip that is often overlooked when constructing a house. Do it once and you'll reap its benefit for the years to come. With these spanning windows, you allow sunlight and air to enter your home freely, providing brightness and proper ventilation.

Sunlight is a natural disinfectant. With its heat and its ability to dry moist areas, it can inhibit growth of mildew and molds.

Tips: For mattresses and sofa containing foam, you may vacuum the entire surface, then place it under direct sunlight, says Enlighten Me.

Without proper ventilation the air containing the foul smell will just circulate within your room again and again, states Construction Owls. The common victim of this is your kitchen. Usually smoke from your food just can't go out. You may install a vent hood to facilitate proper ventilation in this area.

In the bathroom, a small window will also provide ventilation and help it to remain dry and prevent mildew and molds to thrive.

2.Use Baking Soda
Baking soda is a wonder powder. It has many uses in cleaning the house. It can be used to get rid of cigarette smell in clothes and furniture. It also can freshen up your refrigerator by absorbing the smell. Just make sure that you also clean the surfaces with soap and water. Also, always check if you have spoiled food and throw it away.

Tip: For sofa and carpet with lingering smoke smell, sprinkle baking soda on the surface, let it sit for a few hours and vacuum it with HEPA vacuum, says Homesessive. You may also proceed in exposing it out in the sun for better results.

3. Wipe or Spray with Vinegar
Vinegar is a deodorizer and disinfectant as well. You may use them for cleaning cabinets, kitchen countertops, and even your bathroom walls. For really foul smelling odor like a garbage can, clean the can first by removing all debris and then spray it with vinegar.

Tip: Make this recipe from Grandparents. Mix 2 cups of water,1 tablespoon of white vinegar, 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 10 drops of essential oil for a good vinegar-containing airspray. Works best in your bathrooms.

4. Create Your Vavava Vodka!

Yes, you may use vodka in cleaning. Although we recommend for you to choose cheap vodka as it will still do its job anyway. Just create your own disinfectant using vodka and spray it around. You may also focus on those funky smelling shoes or old clothes.

Tip: Make this recipe from Grandparents. Mix 3-parts water, 1-part cheap vodka and 10-20 drops of essential oil such as lavander, eucalyptus or citrus. You just made your own air freshener!

5. Have Some Plants, Fruits and Flowers
Use plants, fruits and flowers to freshen up your home. You may use plants that are great in filtering air pollution inside our homes. Spathiphyllum sp. or Peace Lily is well-recommended by NASA to filter benzene, formaldehyde and trichloroethylenes as noted by Zone10. Benzene is mostly found in ink, formadehyde in pressed wood products, and trichloroethylenes in paints.

Add some flowers to create a lively setting and to act as natural perfume and air freshener. You may also use fruits or citrus peelings!

Tip: Cut an apple in to 4 or more pieces, place on a saucer, and leave on a table. Check it from time to time because some fruit flies might stop by.
