Android 5.0 Lollipop for Samsung Galaxy Edge Released in India; Note 4 Release Date Soon

Although Samsung has clearly placed more focus on its new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge units, this does not necessarily mean that they have left their older models, including the Galaxy Note Edge, in the dust.

Sam Mobile has reported that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update has already started to roll out for the Note Edge in India.

Sadly for the Note 4, however, despite being Samsung’s flagship phablet for 2014, it has not received the much awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop update as of the moment.

However, The International Business Times has noted that since the update is now being distributed to different parts of the United States, it will most likely reach India by the end of this month.

Samsung is working very hard to make sure that every unit gets the update. Still, considering that it is an OTA update, users will only know once the update is ready when a notification is received, according to BGR. Thankfully, those who want to do things manually can also do so on their own. All they have to do is to go to Settings, click About Device, click Software Update, and then, lastly, click the Update button.

According to Geeky-Gadgets, once the update has been downloaded and installed, users can now have access to an all-new Material Design. It has improved notifications for the lock screen, a much better multi-tasking interface, ART runtime, and an all-improved battery saving mode and security mode.

Usually, Samsung distributes the latest OS updates to their new flagship phones and would only address their older models at a later time. However, Note 4 users were enraged when the v5.0 Lollipop OS was first released to the Note 3, which was a 2013 model, instead of the Note 4, which was only out in late January, as detailed by a separate report from The International Business Times.

This incident did not go well with flagship unit owners and took to social media to tell Samsung about their dismay regarding the company’s treatment. Some social media users have even commented that what the company did was pretty much something that an Evil Stepmother would have done.

It was later revealed that the actual reason why the Note 3 was updated before the Note 4 was because of some issues with the Oculus VR. The company had to tweak device’s OS to make it compatible with their new Gear Virtual Reality device, which is a virtual reality headset made in collaboration with Oculus Rift, as further detailed in Samsung.com.
