UFC 185 Fight News: Randy Couture Offers to Train Laila Ali vs. Ronda Rousey

Last week it was reported that retired boxer Laila Ali made massive claims that she remains unbeatable. When pressed further, she continued to say that even UFC champ Ronda Rousey doesn't have what it takes to bring her down.

While an actual match-up would be a longshot, former UFC champ Randy Couture has weighed in says he'd be willing to train the 37-year-old mother of two for the match.

Speaking to TMZ, the UFC Hall of Famer and MMA coach said he could assist Ali in working on her wrestling moves. Couture says in the clip, "She doesn't need a boxing trainer, she needs a wrestling trainer. She [Ali] knows how to box."

Randy continued to say, "Ronda Rousey's not gonna stand and box with her. She's gonna take her down on the ground and rip her arm off like she does everyone else's."

When asked by the TMZ cameraman if he'd be willing to train her, Couture said yes. "Sure, she's a great athlete and I have a lot of respect for her," he adds that being a mother has nothing to do with Ali's skill because she's got the necessary skill set and intensity.

He did note that Ali would need to learn grappling and wrestling but the amount of time for her to learn all of it would be the big question.

Laila Vs Ronda

Last week when asked to compare herself to the MMA fighter, Ali began by saying the sports were completely different but eventually came to say she still reigns supreme. "No woman in the world can beat me. Period," said Ali, recalls ESPN.

While that would have sufficed, Laila continued to say, "She's too much smaller than me anyways. She's like the size of my daughter. My three-year-old."

Following the comments, the 28-year-old UFC icon dished on her fight assessment and willingness to settle the debate.

"If she wants to take me up on that, I'm around," Rousey says of Ali, via The Daily Beast. "She's retired and has several kids. I understand why she'd think that because she has a size advantage, but if you saw my last fight it had nothing to do with size or strength at all. That's not how I beat people. So you can't count having a size and strength advantage as having a real advantage against me."

Rousey's last bout was an impressive 14-second win versus Cat Zingano at UFC 184. Heading into UFC 185, Joanna Jedrzejczyk commented on Rousey's impact in the WMMA.

"She [Rousey] showed to everyone that females can fight. I think it's going to help," Jedrzejczyk to Sporting News.
