Samuel Goldwyn, noted movie mogul, had to mortgage his Beverly Hills mansion too many times just so he could fund his movie projects. However, that very same house is now on the market at a hefty price tag of US$39 million, according to Wall Street Journal.
This mansion was actually built by famed architect Douglas Honnold for Mr. Goldwyn Sr. back in 1934. He was the movie producer who founded the company that later became part of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) studio. This home served as a common party venue for high profile parties or exclusive tennis matches. His usual guests included the likes of Katharine Hepburn and Charlie Chaplin, as reported by Los Angeles Times.
The Georgian-themed estate also served as a home to Samuel Goldwyn, Jr. who is another movie producer. The famous 1988 independent movie, “Mystic Pizza,” was his brainchild as well as 2013’s “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.”
“I’m often asked what it was like to be part of the old Hollywood,” he told Los Angeles Times back in 1995. “What people want to hear is how I was dangled on Clark Gable’s knee. But, what I remember most is the days my father’s movies were paid off.”
He died last January 9 at 88 years old, and his massive house was listed with Stacy Gottula and Joyce Rey of Coldwell Banker Previews International.
“It’s very rare to get two acres of land in Beverly Hills,” Rey stated, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The property spans for almost 11,000 square feet. It has a wide, perfectly landscaped lawn, its own rose garden, and a beautiful swimming pool with its own pool house featuring a mini kitchen. It also boasts of its own massive tennis court as well as a gated motor court.
For the mansion’s interior, there is a formal dining room beautifully lined with French doors that easily open to a patio cleverly covered with trellis. From the patio, potential homeowners are given a breathtaking view of the property’s amazing landscape.
Additionally, it has six bedrooms, five bathrooms, a boast-worthy spiral staircase, its very own gym complete with workout facilities, and a guest suite. The guest house has a separate entrance found on the mansion's main level. Apart from this suite, there is also yet another guest apartment located above the garage.
Moreover, the part of the house speculated to have been the Goldwyns’ favorite would be the mansion’s very own screening room. It features a paneled 35-millimeter screening room that seems to take the homeowners to a much earlier period.
