Android 5.1 Lollipop Update for Nexus 6 Rolls Out, Includes Multi-SIM Support & HD Voice Calls

Although the Android 5.1 Lollipop update launch was just announced a few days ago, The Fuse Joplin reported that Nexus 6 users can now avail of the update. It would appear that Google did not want to waste any time at all as they immediately started the rollout to their first party devices.

According to the report, Google has also opted to push boundaries with this latest update by incorporating it with more stability, more effective device protection, multi-SIM card support, and HD voice calls.

Google has been known to first release their Android updates to the devices they manufactured. Hence, the official launch of the Android 5.1 Lollipop update marks the availability of the OTA updates to the rest of the Nexus line pretty soon, according to Tech Times.

Francisco Franco, a known modder, is immensely famous that the kernel of the unit was actually named after him. According to his official Google+ page, the Nexus 6 now has a considerably better performance after receiving the Android 5.1 Lollipop update.

It is only expected that the Nexus 6 is equipped with today’s latest and most reliable hardware since it is only a six-month-old smartphone. Still, Android Pit stated that a tiny tweak to the device’s kernel will get rid of its “micro-stutters” and will provide some positive changes with regard its overall performance, such as a highly noticeable speed boost.

Plus, it would appear that applying a multiple SIM card support to today’s smartphones has somewhat become a trend. Nearly every device on the market has this feature. A lot of the units shipped to various Asian nations have dual slots for their SIM cards, while others even feature three slots. With the Android 5.1 Lollipop update, Nexus 6 users can easily hold more than one SIM card on the same device.

The International Business Times also reported that this new update will give the Nexus 6 user the ability to immediately join WiFi networks as well as control paired Bluetooth devices right from the unit’s Quick Settings menu.

According to Phone Arena, the firmware update will also bring the device better Factory Reset Protection. It will also fix Android 5.0’s pre-existing bug, the one that duplicates sent SMS.
