Some of you may have trouble designing your home, especially those tricky corners. Sometimes, after carefully putting all your furniture in, the corners feel awkward--giving an impression of a room that is either cramped or has too much space.
"One of the great secrets of designing is to think of your corners first," says Nicky Haslam, a talented British decorator. He took the advice from Tom Parr, a former chairman of British design firm Colefax and Fowler, notes The Wall Street Journal.
By not starting from the corners of your home, they might end up "dark, unloved waste ground," Haslam adds. Thus, you may construct your home with the very modern appeal of real round corners. Its objective is to create an illusion of your corners actually "embracing the room," states Haslam. By creating more rounded corners, it's as if there are no corners at all.
That may actually be a good suggestion especially if you are still constructing your home. However, if you have your home built in a traditional way, this might not apply.
Here are five ways to decorate the corners of your home, not just to let them fit in, but to make your room more beautiful, too.
1. Put Curved Shelves
As Haslam recommends, you may use curved shelves built in those corners.
These shelves may hold angel figurines, toys, plaques or even treasured memorabilia of the places you traveled.
Tip: You may also have a round table placed in the corner. Just put a vase with beautiful fresh flowers on top of it to make it more attractive.
2. Make it as a Reading Nook
Transform that corner in a reading nook, suggests Interior Holic. This will be a good idea if you have windows near the corner so that it will be naturally-filled with light. You may put some mini-library of books installed on the walls too or in a nearby shelf.
Tip: If you have little ones, you can transform this reading corner as a fun corner too, says Houzz. Just add a mat and some toys, along with your young ones' favorite books.
3. Add Plants
An additional plant may not just decorate a corner, it also makes the room more cozy, lively and inviting, says Interior Holic. Just choose the right pot for the size of the plant and make sure the conditions of your room will be right if not optimum, for your plant's growth. Add a sheer curtain if the sunlight entering the window is too bright.
Tip: You may even have a young indoor tree! Don't forget to water it from time to time, though.
4. Place High-Back Chairs
High back chairs are wonderful and perfect for your home corners, states Houzz. They may be a comfortable resting place for a tiring day or just a simple hang-out place for "me" time.
Tip: You may also use those woven and textured chairs to be a catchy decorative display on their own.
5. Give Space for a Tall Lamp
A tall lamp will make a fine piece of artwork if displayed in the corner, says Driven by Decor. Find a sturdy one that has legs with intricate designs.
Tip: You may also use a tall clock in place of a lamp. It also gives a bold statement.
