‘Final Fantasy Type-0’ HD Release Date & Gameplay: Whole New Series Coming? ‘Type-1 HD’ on the Way? [Video]

“Final Fantasy Type-0” might not have the same cultural cache usually seen in a “Final Fantasy” title but Game Rant stated that it remains a very strong game in its own right. The game boasts of a wonderful action-focused combat sequence that perfectly gets along with its compelling story.

The game, which will be out for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on March 17, was directed by Hajime Tabata. His work with “Final Fantasy Type-0” was so good that he was even commended by Square Enix. Moreover, the company placed him in charge of the franchise’s highly awaited 15th installment.

Tabata also mentioned that he also wants to make “Final Fantasy Type-1,” especially after making “Type-0.” However, no further details were given about this matter.

Despite its hype, Tabata revealed that there came a time when “Final Fantasy Type-0” was almost cancelled. “The ‘3rd Birthday’ and ‘Final Fantasy Type-0’ are the titles that were in development at the same time,” he told IGN. “In regards to cancelling, we actually came really close when management gave me direct orders to focus on developing the ‘3rd Birthday,’ requiring me to step away from developing ‘Final Fantasy Type-0’ for about a year.”

This issue motivated Tabata to avoid working on multiple projects at the same time, as reported by Playstation Lifestyle.

A separate Game Rant article noted that the vibe of this game somewhat tackles an old school franchise iteration. The gamers are brought to the land of Orience, wherein four different factions survived in peace for centuries. Each faction is controlled by a special kind of crystal, which gives its citizens various special powers.

Things eventually change when Milites, the nation that holds the power of the White Tiger Crystal, suddenly makes a move to attack Rubrum, the faction that keeps Vermillion Bird Crystal.

Usually, destruction and death are not featured in a standard “Final Fantasy” game. Although there might be other games in the franchise that mildly explore these areas, they do not do so as brutally as they were tackled in “Final Fantasy Type-0.” This makes this particular game a more mature iteration of the series.

It would certainly appear that this new game is the birth of something new. That said, it is only safe to say game sequels are in order. However, considering that Tabata needs to complete “Final Fantasy 15” first, the sequel could still be a long ways off.
