"Elder Scrolls" fans will rejoice as today as "Elder Scrolls Online," which has been re-branded as "Tamriel Unlimited" has become free-to-play. This means that all updates and transfers will be free for all users.
The online version on PC started with a bang as it was announced that subscription fees would be removed. The news, while great for game fans, doesn't come as a surprise since the free model was announced by Zenimax as early as January, reports Game Politics.
From a monthly subscription, gamers no longer need to play a monthly fee to access the game world. Its full title, "Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited" is a full game version and includes all earlier updates and content. Additions to the experience include the new Champion and Justice systems.
The "Tamriel Unlimited" version allow complete gameplay but for those who want premium downloadable content as well as "extras" for the game, Zenimax is offering ESO Plus which is an "optional premium membership."
The ESO Plus version gives players access to major DLC game packs, in-game bonuses, a monthly stipend in game currency to be spent at the Crown store and much more.
According to GreenManGaming, "The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited is set roughly 1,000 years before the events in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and the coming of the Dragonborn, and just before the rise of Tiber Septim, the first Emperor of Tamriel. Three Alliances have emerged across the continent, each struggling for supremacy over the land. As these great powers battle one another for control of the Imperial City - and with it all of Tamriel - darker forces are moving to destroy the world."
For those who have canceled their previous subscriptions, simply log back in using your User ID and password and you can enjoy free play. If you've lost your password, links are provided to assist you in retrieving the information.
Following the PC release, a PS4 and Xbox One version is due out on June 9. According to Game Politics, both console versions will also be free-to-play but rates will still apply for Xbox Live Gold subscription in order to play but a Playstation Plus subscription on PS4 is not required.
