'X-Men: Apocalypse' Release Date, Trailer & Cast: Nicholas Hoult Bidding Farewell to 'Beast' Role? [Rumors]

"X-Men" fans who adore Nicholas Hoult, also known as Beast, would be disappointed to learn that the upcoming mutant film might be the last time they would see the actor portraying this role.

News circulated that "X-Men: Apocalypse" might be the last "X-Men" film for the 25-year old English actor. Hoult attended the opening part of Boffin's Lab and "Wired Insider" at SXSW where he was asked about the future of his character, Hank McCoy for the "X-Men" films, reported E! News.

The actor, who was also the former beau of fellow cast member Jennifer Lawrence, said his appearance is the last one as stipulated in his contract.

"This is the last one I'm signed up for," said Hoult.

It might be easy to remedy the problem by just signing up the actor for more "X-Men" movies as his acting and character have been well received by fans. However, it might not be that simple.

Hoult added, "The first one did so well and 'Days of Future Past' got received so brilliantly. It's like, 'Wow, people really want to see the films' and the best thing is it's a great crew and cast to work with and he's a fun character."

He also admitted that if given the choice, he would continue portraying Beast.

"I have a good time playing him so I'd keep making them," the English actor admitted.

In a report on IGN, screenwriter Simon Kinberg revealed that the upcoming movie is the end of a trilogy that talked about the First Class characters of the franchise. With that said, it is unsure whether Beast would be featured in future "X-Men" films and other spin-offs.

However, the possibility that Hoult would return depends heavily on the scripts of future "X-Men" films. The franchise is known for bringing back old characters for cameos and short stints, said Movie Web.

While it is unlikely that the 25-year-old actor would be seen in the upcoming "Deadpool" and "Gambit" spin-off in 2016 and also in the "Wolverine 3" scheduled for 2017, there might be a chance that producers behind the popular series could come up with a storyline that would see his return in the future.

Until then, fans would have to content themselves with Hoult's appearance in the next "X-Men" film.

Bryan Singer, who directed the movie, revealed that fans could expect the relationship of Beast and Mystique, played by Jennifer Lawrence, to further develop in the upcoming film.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" hits theaters on May 27, 2016.
