Fans of George R.R. Martin will love the newest "Winds of Winter" update. Reports have indicated that the famed "A Song of Ice and Fire" author is hard at work on the newest installment due for release and the famous author has hinted at a possible 2015 release.
According to the newest blog post of Martin titled, "Sorry, Saratoga" the author has said he will not be appearing at the 2015 World Fantasy Convention happening in Saratoga.
"Reluctantly, however, I've just had to scratch Saratoga off my list of 2015 appearances," announced the writer and added, "For no reason having to do with the con itself. I am sure it will be terrific. It's just a matter of time."
"I have too much to do. Too many things on my plate. Son of Kong foremost amongst them," continued Martin. In addition to Saratoga, he will also skip the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con. "Also, I have decided against attending this year's San Diego Comicon. Same reason. But since Comicon was never listed on my Appearances page, scratching it is not as big a deal."
While his regrets to both events is unfortunate for fans who would've enjoyed seeing the man behind "Game of Thrones," he did close with a sentence that has fans in a frenzy.
(Should I complete and deliver WINDS OF WINTER before these cons roll round, I reserve the right to change my mind).
"Winds of Winter" Release Date
As earlier reported fans have been waiting for the next title in the book series since "A Dance with Dragons" in 2011. Per Jane Johnson, speaking to The Guardian, the books are incredibly complex to write and the book's delivery date is unknown. As it stands, there are no plans for a 2015 publication.
A number of reports have been released estimating when the book would hit the shelves. Posssible release dates range from 2015 to as far as 2018.
Based on a blog entry by the author last December, Martin addressed the 2015 release date rumors saying, "I've said before, and I will say again, I don't play games with news about the books. I know how many people are waiting, how long they have been waiting, how anxious they are. I am still working on WINDS. When it's done, I will announce it here," and added, "When it is done, I will say that's it is done, on whatever day I happen to finish."
Given Martin's sentiment and emphasis on release date transparency, his most recent hint could be the most encouraging news that a 2015 release could still happen.
