Three years ago, Stuart and Valarie Ross sold their Pa Gomo home in Telluride, Colorado. "Pa Gomo" which means "on the mountain" in Chinyanga, a Southern African dialect, perfectly represents the estate as it literally sits on a mountain. Its architectural design is "exquisite" and it gives a "360-degree view of the mountains," says Steve Catsman of the Telluride Real Estate Corp., as reported on PRNews Wire.
The more than 10,000 sq. ft of home resting on a 35-acre of land was initially listed in the market for $20.5M, but in 2012, the price dropped to $19.5. Although the deal for the Pa Gomo was finally closed to a largely reduced price of $13.2M, it was deemed the highest recorded sale in Telluride in five years, reports Curbed Ski.
Now, it looks like the couple wants to surpass that record-breaking amount as they've listed their new Colorado ranch for $29M. Stuart named the ranch "Inyanga" as a way to remember his precious younger years in Africa, reports The Wall Street Journal. "Inyanga" means traditional healer in Zulu communities.
"After Pa Gomo we wanted to go smaller and more comfortable," Stuart tells The Wall Street Journal in an email.
The 2000 sq. ft Inyanga home is so much smaller than Pa Gomo, but it has incredible features. It was supposed to Stuart and Valarie's retirement house, however, they "love to travel and take on new challenges". They are not ready for the "boredom of retirement yet," as Stuart puts it in his email.
The $29M Colorado Ranch they are now selling has been keeping them busy in the last three years. Although they downsized their home, the whole ranch sits on a 530-acre of land! They bought it for only $13.75M, but the couple added several features to it. In his email, Mr. Ross reveals that he "whipped the property into shape." They added a new sprinkler irrigation system for the pastures, provided the barn with modern offices and kitchen, replanted hay pastures, improved the communication systems, and rebuilt some roads. The ranch also has 2 cabins for guests to stay.
With all these things set and done, the couple is indeed ready for their next project. Who knows where fate will lead them? Will they finally find a place to settle and call home? One thing's for sure, though. Wherever their feet will take them, their journey will always be a great adventure.
