Less than two months since the controversial movie based on the book, "Fifty Shades of Grey," topped box-office charts, and it seems that the film's sequel is about to hit theaters sooner than the fans think.
The book's author, E.L. James, posted a photo of the wall of NBC Universal on her Instagram feed which sparked rumors that the 52-year-old writer is in the film distributor's office to discuss the upcoming sequel called, "Fifty Shades Darker," said IB Times.
The photo, captioned simply with a smiley face, had a different effect on the fans of the franchise. A few moments after James uploaded it, the Instagram universe erupted into fans all showing excitement and anticipation for the movie featuring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan.
Even before the first movie in the trilogy was released on Valentine's Day, director Sam Taylor-Johnson already confirmed that two more films would be made for the franchise, wrote Vanity Fair in February.
Both Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, who played Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey, respectively, also confirmed that they would reprise their roles in the upcoming two sequels.
The movie has gotten mixed reactions before its release with the actors unsure of how the fans would see it. However, it seemed that the cast's fears were unfounded as it enjoyed box-office success.
According to Forbes, the film raked in $94.4 million on the weekend it first opened, toppling the movie "Valentine's Day," which previously held the record of highest-grossing film released on the said holiday.
The film continues to earn and has already gotten $546 million all over the world.
It is officially a huge success for a film with a low budget as well as marred with issues and controversies even before its launch.
Dornan, who played dominant millionaire Christian Grey, was very happy with the fans' reaction.
A representative of the actor said, "Jamie is delighted that the film is breaking box office records worldwide and whilst the studio has not made any formal announcements about sequels, he is looking forward to making the next film."
Fans as well are excited for the next film, which would see the continuation of the submissive-dominant relationship between Anastasia and Christian. Many are also looking forward to see who would be casted as Elena Robinson in the film, who is identified as the infamous character who introduced Christian to the world of BDSM.
"Fifty Shades Darker" is set to hit theaters in 2017.
