A few weeks since Google announced that Android 5.1 Lollipop update is arriving on the Nexus devices, reports began to circulate that other Android units are to follow suit soon.
Google only launched the Android 5.0 Lollipop on November 2014 and a new update is set to arrive soon. The Android 5.1 Lollipop would reportedly fix all the issues that could not be addressed by the Android 5.0.1 and 5.0.2 patches.
Gottabemobile reported that Google confirmed on March 8 the arrival of the new update to Nexus users.
It seems that Motorola would soon make the update available to its Moto X units.
According to another report in Gottabemobile, the company behind Moto X started to try out the Android 5.1 for the device that came out in 2014 and the results are looking great.
Motorola decided to take advantage of the update to insert their own fixes and patches to their devices for Android 5.1 users to have an optimal experience with the new system.
Among the rumored changes that came with the update is the "chop twice for flashlight" motion that would allow any user of the Moto X to open the flashlight. Instead of heading to the menu and looking for the switch on the settings, one could easily make a chopping motion two times and the LED lights would turn on.
Meanwhile, TechnoBuffalo listed all the new things Android 5.1 users could enjoy when the update hits their devices. The list include upgrades on the notifications where users could customize the way they receive these notification messages so that their phone won't be flooded. It would also bring a new way for the unit owners to dismiss notifications with just one swipe.
For added security, the update would not allow any access to the device in case of loss or theft and would continue even if the factory settings are reset. Of course, the phone must be registered under a Google account for this to work.
No exact date was given to Moto X users when they could finally update their devices to 5.1 Lollipop.
Meanwhile, HTC seemed to have changed its tune after it initially told users over the weekend that no 5.1 updates would be arriving to HTC One M7 users unless it was purchased through Google Play, noted After Dawn.
HTC head MO Versi tweeted, "I head you all on M7 5.1 for Carrier versions. Many of the fixes are already in our current SW, but understand your concerns. Stay tuned."
Versi has not made any statement when the said device would pick up this update.
