Following the roll out of Android's newest OS update, the Android 5.1 Lollipop, Apple is said to be gearing up for its own iOS fix. A number of sources have reported that the Cupertino-based firm has seeded the latest beta of the upcoming iOS 8.3 to developers.
With the new iOS update expected to be released, there are two commonly reported features that Apple will supposedly provide, as found below:
- Enhanced Siri - In an article published by MacRumors, the iOS 8.3 will enable users to instruct Siri to make phone calls via the device's speakers. Enhancing the functionality of Siri's hands-free capabilities, users can ask the virtual assistant to call a contact and the call will be done using the speakerphone. Currently, using the iOS 82. Platform, all Siri-commanded phone calls are made without the speakerphone option.
- Password Configuration - There will also be a new password configuration for iTunes and the App Store, reports 9to5Mac. "Labeled as 'Password Settings', the new view allows users to configure how frequently Apple should ask for the user's iTunes Store password for purchases. This includes allowing users to choose to allow free apps to be downloaded, no password necessary."
The online publication adds that the iOS 8.3 will include a slew of other features and fixes like a new Emoji keyboard, wireless CarPlay and additional international languages.
For those eager to try what the iOS 8.3 has to offer, GottaBeMobile notes that you can try the update right now. The latest beta was released as a public beta meaning those outside of the developers program can install the update but must note that the platform hasn't been finished.
The site also noted that the iOS 8.2 has brought with it a number of problems, as detailed by Apple users. Some of the most common complaints include issues with battery life/ performance and connectivity issues. However, the site does add that the complaints don't seem to be widespread but rather, isolated to a number of users.
Additionally, iOS 8.2 brought with it the Apple Watch application. With the Apple Watch, set for release next month, the company provided wearable technology support to the newest OS, which cannot be deleted. For those who aren't interested in purchasing the watch, the tile can be irritating. As it stands, it is unknown if this App tile will be available for removal in the next system update.
The release date of the iOS 8.3 has not been announced.
