We've all heard about luxury cars that cost as much as $3 million, but that very same amount for a parking space? Now, that's a little bit of a stupendous idea, don't you think?
Apparently, not.
For Battle Plan Capital, $3 million would be the asking price for the biggest parking slips in their latest venture. But, these are no ordinary parking slots. The Alabama-based developer is planning to build a mega yacht docking facility called Harbour Twenty-Six in Fort Lauderdale, South Florida.
Located at South Fork of New River, the mega yacht marina is the only fully-covered facility within the area. Battle Plan Capital dubbed the project as a "dockominium", a portmanteau of the words "dock" and "condominium". Each of the mega yacht garage on sale comes with its own property title just like a condo unit, the Sun Sentinel notes.
The facility will have 26 parking garages, each of which has two-story high storage buildings designed to withstand the most unforgiving of South Florida winds. Two carports are also included for each slip, and the owners will also have access to Harbour Twenty-Six's clubhouse with its full amenities.
As stated in their brochure, the price for a 170 ft. by 40 ft. yacht is the most expensive at $3 million, while the lowest price is at $1.8 million for a 120 ft. by 35 ft. luxury vessel. There are also storage units for 140 ft. and 130 ft. yachts with a price tag of $2.4 and $2 million, respectively.
In a SmarterTravel.com's article back in 2013, it was mentioned that the local residents of Fort Lauderdale alone owns 50,000 of these luxury boats; this is more than enough reason why the place is nicknamed the "Yachting Capital of the World". The 26 parking slips of the dockominium is highly coveted because of this glut.
The project was designed to be a cutting-edge, deep-water mega yacht marina equipped with topnotch amenities, according to the developers. They believe that "Harbour Twenty-Six is unlike any other facility of its kind extending five-star support to the luxury marine lifestyle".
In a report by the CNN Money, eight out of the total number of Harbour Twenty-Six garages were already taken by buyers, to think that the construction of the docking facility is not even underway yet. They plan to start building the mega yacht marina this coming May, and finish it after only about a year in time for the summer of 2016.
