HTC isn't bowing out of the oversized smartphone challenge. New reports reveal that the technology firm may be cooking up something to rival Apple's iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung Galaxy Note series.
According to BGR's newest article, HTC is going head to head with competition with an new model of its latest HTC One M9 device dubbed as the HTC One M9 Plus.
The publication writes that "the One M9 Plus will feature a 5.2-inch with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels, an MT6795T MediaTek 64-bit octa-core processor, a PowerVR Rogue G6200 GPU, a 21.1-megapixel rear-facing camera, 3GB of RAM and Android 5.0 Lollipop."
Droid-Life reports similar specs but rather than a 5.2-inch screen, the site say that the expected smartphone will have a "5.5-inch QHD (2560×1440) display, Mediatek MT6795 64-bit octa-core processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage, BoomSound speakers, a fingerprint sensor, and the Duo Camera setup last seen on the One M8. This time, though, the main camera jumps up to 20MP, just like the camera in the One M9."
The site notes that leaked photos of the device shows the M9 model with larger dimensions geared for those who want a larger screen, similar to the market being targeted by the iPhone 6 Plus and Galaxy Note series.
Engadget wrote in a related article that there is no specific release date but the device looks to be headed to China Mobile indicating the rumored smartphone will be geared for an overseas release.
In addition to this, HTC is said to have scheduled an even on April 8 which could be the venue for the M9 Plus unveiling. One comment the publication had, with regards to the alleged specs, would be the need for better graphic designers.
The press invite (click here to see) shows an image of a smartphone device's back casing focused on the top right corner.
The teaser image, said to be focused on Chinese media, comes with a simiple caption, "HTC More Than One."
It could be argued that the tagline "more than one" could indicate a second variant of a smartphone, in this case the One M9 Plus.
Should this oversized phone ever hit the market, it'll be a new player, much like Apple, in the larger smartphone category.
