'Empire' Penthouse in Chicago Listed for $12.95M

Since "Empire" stopped airing new episodes, fans who want to see more of the series may check out photos of the Chicago penthouse featured on the show through a real estate listing, on @properties. The Chicago penthouse used in the Fox series is listed for $12.95M, reports Huffington Post.

"Baller is the word to describe it," said listing agent Phil Skowron of @properties, which handles the listing of the two-floor Streeterville penthouse, notes DNAinfo.

The penthouse, measuring 9,300 sq. ft, includes three bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, an indoor basketball court, three saltwater aquariums, and a vast terrace wrapping around the unit, offering a view of Lake Michigan, as mentioned in the listing. The aquariums reportedly have exotic fish and live reef corrals.

Huffington Post notes that the condo unit also includes a squash court and a 500-gallon hot tub with a popup TV.

Although its was listed for a whopping amount of $12.95M, its building cost was way more than that, Skowron told DNAinfo. The condo atop the tower cost $15M to build and was completed only after more than 2 years, says the agent.

The high price tag is due to the rarity of some of its materials -- like hand-picked slabs of onyx -- and the complexity of the plan, including a very large steam room that could hold as many as 30 people inside. The agent revealed to Huffington Post that the stones themselves, used in the baseboards and columns, fetched $1M already.

Basing from the pictures in DNAinfo, it's quite obvious why the agent said, "There was no expense spared."

Spanning glass windows let light fill the already immaculate rooms. Luxury art pieces adorn the living room areas, while the lights used in the condo spell class and elegance. The furniture are sleek and stylish. The staging of furnishing in the living area exudes an aura of confidence and comfort with its use of big spaces in between.

Lining the whole wraparound terrace floors are wooden materials, integrating natural appeal in its contemporary architecture.

The curved and slightly winding staircase also adds class to the unit.

Aside from "Empire", the condo has also debuted in the science fiction movie, "Jupiter Ascending," starring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis, says DNAinfo.

"You can't find another penthouse like this in the city," Skowron said confidently.

The seller of the property was not identified but Skowron revealed that the owner is selling the condominium because the "family and business run more out-of-state."

As per Cook County property records, it was stated that in 2008, a private trust acquired it without further data on who the beneficiary of the trust is.

The condominium's yearly property taxes amount to almost $100k and its monthly association dues cost $6,508, reports DNAinfo.
