Director James Gunn recently took to Twitter to announce that Captain Marvel or Carol Danvers will not be showing up in the upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy 2.” When Marvel Studios announced last year that Captain Marvel will be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans immediately assumed that it was going to be “Guardians of the Galaxy 2.”
However, Gunn may be merely not allowed to provide hints about Captain Marvel’s inclusion in the upcoming sequel. One other possibility is that Danvers may not have reached her Captain Marvel status yet, as reported by Christian Today.
Although it remains unclear whether Captain Marvel will truly be part of the movie’s awesome cast, it appears that the rest of the gang will be returning to reprise their roles. Vin Diesel spoke to MTV about his unique role as Groot, whose lines are only made up of “Groot” and “I am Groot” said in different intonations.
“You know, I enjoyed the experience of playing Groot,” he said. “A lot of it was the great cast, and the genius of James Gunn. I know James Gunn is very excited and he is working on it right now. He is very excited about what Groot will do in the 2017 movie.”
The media also asked Diesel if will be willing to expand his voice-only role as Groot into a voice-less performance as the Inhuman King, Black Bolt.
“Oh, God,” he said. “Wow, right for the jugular. You see, Marvel? They ask me these questions! I enjoyed, you know, entering into the Marvel world. And good things will come from that.”
Diesel also noted that he was nominated for this year’s MTV Movie Awards with his “Guardians of the Galaxy” co-star, Bradley Cooper. They will by vying for the award Best On-Screen Duo. He actually won this particular award twice in the past, both with the late Paul Walker, whom he starred with in the “Fast and the Furious” franchise.
Now that Captain Marvel has been ruled out from the “Guardians of the Galaxy” sequel, fans have started to wonder which superhero Gunn was referring as his "favorite" who will be featured in the second installment of the franchise.
According to some fans, the director could have been referring to Moondragon, the daughter of Drax the Destroyer. She was believed to have been killed by the super villain in the first film.
