'The Mindy Project' Season 4: Series To Be Canceled Due to Low Ratings? Maybe, But Mindy is Hopeful

"The Mindy Project" has concluded its third season and given the series' underwhelming ratings, the show faces the possibility of getting canceled.

In an earlier report by E! News, the publication noted that per insiders, the show's future hasn't been determined but as it stands, it could go either way.

"The show's ratings have never been anything to write home about, sadly, but the critical praise and sincere love among Fox's top brass could keep it afloat once more. The decision is also contingent on how Fox's new pilots turn out."

While the show could be performing better, creator and series star Mindy Kaling is in high spirit and remains positive.

"I'm so proud of the show," she said recently while at E! Studios. "There's nothing really that I would do differently in the way that we've built the those in the last couple of years, and I love our relationship with Fox and I would love for it to just continue."

The show has a loyal following because of the characters which people can relate to and a of course, its grounded storyline.

"I would love for that to be the legacy," Kaling revealed, "that it was a breeding ground for insane talent and for people to watch it and be like, 'This was a great love story over the course of how ever many seasons for the first time between two realistic people falling in love, that didn't shy away from stuff that was real that was a on network...which I don't know that we're going to see that many more of those kind of shows on networks."

The new report follow what was reported by Bustle at the beginning of the year.

Even though the ratings aren't stellar, fans can still hope because the show is still performing better than other series that include "Mulaney" and it isn't trailing by much from the studio's highest-rated comedy "New Girl."

Following its analysis, the site concluded that even though it has "modest ratings," the show's fourth season will probably push through.
During an interview with EW's Jessica Shaw and Melissa Maerz, Mindy leaked that the series will focus on the relationship of Danny (Chris Messina) and Mindy.

"Danny as a father is really something to think about writing-I love that. And Mindy on maternity leave, Mindy on the playground with other moms. There's so many things! And I feel like the way we see it portrayed on TV-to have it be funny and not have it be tragic-I'm really excited," said Kaling to SiriusXM.

We can expect Fox' verdict by early May as the schedules are once again revealed.
