For couples, designing each room in a home is easy, except for the bedroom. This gets even harder as your family grows. If you have daughters, lots of inspiration may be derived from magazines and on the Internet to create the girls room. However, for most parents, it is challenging to create a boys bedroom.
Here are 5 tips to have a wonderfuls boys bedroom they will appreciate.
1. Include Big Space in the Plan
Before you get excited on what furnishing or what bed to put, you must include a considerable amount of space in their bedroom.Space makes them more creative, says Pottery Barn Kids.
They can use it to assemble and play with Lego blocks, train sets and complete puzzles. In the next years, he could invite friends over for their projects or a guitar jam.
As boys are generally more active than girls, having space lets them feel more comfortable and not restricted.
2. Consider Their Interests
You may put up a mural wall of their favorite animals or cartoon characters as the room's decorating theme, says About Home. You may also design walls with their favorite superheroes, athletes, or outdoor scenery like forrest or jungles, states Pottery Barn Kids.
If you have young sons, decorate the walls using their own artwork, says Better Homes and Gardens (BHG). Young kids would usually draw what they like. You may continue to use their paintings as decors even when they get older. Framing them would add to their appeal.
Angela Sage Larsen, a mural artist, says the key is to consider how a son's interests may change through the years as noted by Chicago Tribune. "If you are more broad, you can come up with something that can grow with them, and it can stimulate and inspire imagination," says Larsen.
If they like airplanes, BHG also suggests to put an aiplane model over their bed.
3. Make it Simple
You may choose neutral colors especially of it is a shared room, advised BHG. Cream, white colors may be used on the walls and some colors can be added as accents. Avoid making the room overwhelming by applying too much strong colors, warns Pottery Barn Kids.
According to BHG, blue is actually the "new neutral" which may be used as the color motiff of the room in the years to come. However, the outlet also suggests that the green-white-and-blue color combo is one of the best combination for a boys room.
Parents may not limit themselves to plain walls though. For example, one may also choose to design walls with vertical stripes of blue and white for a simple yet attractive design, notes BHG.
4. Have a Smart Storage
A smart storage is necessary for your boys to organize their room, advises Pottery Barn Kids. Furthermore, BHG suggests that you label each pail, box or compartment to aid them in the process.
For little ones, they may have a big toy box for their Lego or toy cars. Pottery Barn Kids even suggests to have a treasure box for their trinkets, as young boys love to collect stuff.
For teens, they may have a separate storage for their CDs and sensitive gadgets.
