'Prometheus 2' Release Date & Spoilers: Sequel Set in Earth With No Xenomorphs? Will It Compete With ‘Star Trek 3’ in 2016?

Ever since it was announced that the science fiction film, "Prometheus," is coming out with a sequel, fans of the franchise have come up with numerous speculations on what to expect in the second film. Word is out that the sequel would finally say goodbye to the "xenomorphs" and would find itself in a location much closer -- that is Earth.

Ridley Scott, who directed the first film, previously told reporters that the upcoming sequel would no longer feature the "xenomorphs," which looked very similar to the creature in "Aliens."

In 2014, Scott told Screen Rant, "The beast is done. Cooked. I got lucky meeting the late H.R. Giger all those years ago. It's very hard to repeat that."

The director added that featuring the creature tends to get tiring. He continued, "There's only so much snarling you can do. I think you've got to come back with something more interesting. And I think we've found the next step. I thought the Engineers were quite a good start."

Because of the revelation that the sequel would not show the alien creatures again, some speculations have arisen that the movie's next location is someplace where "xenomorphs" don't exist, which some have pointed to as the Earth.

According to Crossmap, there is a possibility that the story would pick off at the "engineers' home planet which is Earth."

The website also noted an article in Movie Pilot that wrote about the conversation between Scott and Nimrod Antal, director of "Predators." It detailed how the director revealed to Antal what would happen in the sequel.

"Off the record he claimed that he was disappointed with the story of 'Prometheus' but when the company pitched the sequel he agreed," said Antal.

He added, "Indeed the sequel is going to be better but it will NOT focus on the space engineers' planet but on planet earth. Characters from earth will be introduced as signals from the spaceship Noomi is on will prompt Wayland sponsored military to go after it before it reaches earth."

Antal continued, "Noomi's character will die in the middle, but a woman hero (military) will take her place. We will not see the engineers' planet until the third installment known as Paradise."

The director also revealed that the sequel's working title is called, "Prometheus: Hell on Earth."

"Prometheus 2" is slated for a 2016 release.

With this date, some have expressed concerns that the science-fiction film would get head to head with another famous sci-fi movie, "Star Trek 3."

According to Venture Capital Post, the two movies' 2016 release might pose a problem as actor Idris Elba is rumored to be part of both. However, his role in "Star Trek 3" has yet to be confirmed and Elba's character in "Prometheus" died in the first film it is not yet final that he could return for the upcoming sequel.
