'The X-Files' Reboot Cast, Update & Release Date: Fan Favorite Characters To Reprise Roles; Find Out Who!

Fans of the science fiction mystery show, "The X-Files," were ecstatic to learn that their 1990s favorite show is making a comeback. But while fans are excited to see Mulder and Scully return to their TV screens, it seems that the duo are not the only ones who would return. Reports say Skinner and Cigarette-Smoking Man would also come back in the TV reboot.

According to The Daily Mail, David Duchovny, who played FBI special agent Fox Mulder, was a guest in "The Late Show with David Letterman," when he made the revelation. Duchovny was talking about the series, which aired from 1993 until 2002, when he made a remark about fans' excitement to see the cast return.

"It's a strange phenomenon that people still want to see those characters," said the 54-year old actor.

Duchovny would reprise his role along with Gillian Anderson, who played Dana Scully in the series. Aside from them, it has been confirmed that two fan favorites are also returning to join the show.

"Gillian and I, we're original. And Mitch Pileggi and the Cigarette Smoking Man, is this means anything, will be coming back," said the actor to Letterman.

The 62-year-old Pileggi played the role of Assistant Director Walter Skinner, who was the boss, friend, and confidant of the two agents in the series. Meanwhile, 77-year old William B. Davis portrayed the Cigarette Smoking Man.

His character is the main villain in the series and was also called by other names such as Cancer Man or CGB Spender.

Aside from the two supporting actors, it was also reported by IndieWire that Robert Patrick would return as Special Agent John Doggett, as well as Annabeth Gish who played Special Agent Monica Reyes.

"The X-Files" would return as a six-episode series and would air beginning summer of 2015.

Executive producer and creator, Chris Carter, called the series' supposed end as "a 13-year commercial break," reported The Guardian. He added, "The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories."

And it seems that it's not only Carter who is looking forward to and optimistic about the project. Even FOX Television Group chairman Dana Walden and CEO Gary Newman has expressed their excitement on the upcoming series.

"We had the privilege of working with Chris on all nine seasons of 'The X-Files' - one of the most rewarding creative experiences of our careers - and we couldn't be more excited to explore that incredible world with him again," said the two officials in a statement.
